"Becoming" Sunrise Ombre City Skyline Chest of Drawers

This piece captures a city in transformation - from darkness to light, from stillness into energy and movement, as the city slowly awakens with the promise of a new day.

This is a solid pine 5 drawer tallboy chest of drawers, professionally upcycled and refinished in warm sunset shades of orange, yellow and pink, finished with a bold dark city skyline effect.

I have hand painted this piece in blended sunset colours to create a soft ombre effect, inspired by the sunrise over New York City. The skyline is hand painted in black Onyx, with my own impression of the NYC skyline reflected in the Hudson River, creating that striking mirrored look across the centre drawers.

To achieve the paint blend, I used the Fusion Alchemy paint range in Raspberry, Marigold, Harvest and Sunset, then sealed everything with Fusion Tough Coat for added durability. Even the inside of the drawers has been treated to a subtle paint wash ombre to brighten them up, because I believe the little details matter.

These totally unique and eye-catching drawers are made to be a real talking point, the kind of piece that deserves to stand centre stage. Versatile enough to use in a bedroom, office, lounge, dining room, or even a shop front, it’s a genuine statement piece that will have your visitors and guests asking, “Where did you get that?”

An overlooked object given a completely new identity, purpose and story. It's a journey many of us can relate to - that transformation isn't about removing the past, but building something new from it.

A note on character

This unit has both age and history and has been previously loved, so there may be signs of a life well lived. As always, I've taken care to lovingly restore it to a beautiful reloved statement piece that would sit proudly in any home.

If you're after a perfect factory finish, upcycled or refinished furniture may not be the best choice for you. My pieces are chosen for their character and, like all of us, may have small quirks that add to their charm.
